What really makes us beautiful?
Since 2018, Everybody the Artist has been looking into the mirror and asking this question, “What makes me beautiful?”
Sometimes we like the way we look…
We like our eyes, or our hair, and our smile. We dig our fit, and the way we style. We feel the way we makeup. We have cool birthmarks and got sweet tattoos. These physical features and things tend to stick out to us at first. There’s nothing wrong with that! Looking good and different is part of what makes us beautiful, and we can be proud and grateful for these gifts.
But beauty isn’t every totally about the way we look. It’s easy for us to get carried away always trying to polish the reflection we see in the mirror,
but when we start speaking out to our reflection, something truly beautiful happens…
We very quickly get past that skin deep and notice our inner beauty. We start talking about how we like our personality. How being nice to others makes us beautiful. How our passion and confidence make us beautiful. How our resilience, overcoming, and surviving our past traumas makes us beautiful.
We then notice that our friends, our family, other people, and sometimes even the cat are there in the mirror with us; and we pull them close into our reflection and speak about how it’s really them that makes us so beautiful!
We learn The most beautiful thing we can be is a beautiful reflection for others!
By creating a reflection of ourselves that clearly wants to be a beautiful reflection for others, the SelfieXpression project teaches us that we are the mirrors for each other. Together, we see that we’re really beautiful because we can make those around us beautiful.
